Keeping pace with a changing world
Over the past 20 years technology and products have been evolving to take on more and more of the features which would previously have needed to be delivered through bespoke application code. The resultant ‘blurring of lines’ between infrastructure, middleware and application can be a blessing and a curse. Used appropriately it can reduce the cost of delivery and time to market. However, this can be at the expense of disproportionately high ongoing licence fees and vendor ‘lock-ins’, or perhaps worse still at the expense of the skills needed to support and maintain the solution.
